The observer works alongside the pilot, and together they ensure a safe operation. The observer's task seems simple, but it involves much more. Besides monitoring the ground and sky for hazards, there will often be spectators present.
A drone is always a source of concern when it flies nearby. These spectators are not allowed in the cordoned-off flight area or may need to be spoken to. The observer can also be seen as the host of the flight area. Clear and concise communication with the pilot, but especially with spectators and other people, is a crucial aspect of the work. An observer must also have understanding and insight into situations and their potential consequences for the operation. Consider, for example, rapidly changing weather conditions.
